The History of Tiffield
Tiffield has an incredible history. If you'd like to know more about the history of Tiffield, feel free to look at the links below, and look at our very own H.O.T.S (History of Tiffield Society), where you can learn much more about the history. If you'd like old maps or books of Tiffield and the surrounding area, please visit the Francis Frith site.
At the start of the 20th century, most of the population would have had to work in the Parish, on the farms, at the wheelwright-cum builder, the blacksmith, the brickyard, in domestic service, the railway, or up at the reformatory.
Within 50 years the increasing mechanisation of farming and motor car greatly reduced the work available. Only the farms and wheelwrights survived as employers. These days most villagers have private transport and the majority of work outside the village, although a few do run enterprises from home.
Please see our very History of Tiffield Society (H.O.T.S) section of the site.
